I am married with Özlem

We are married since 2020. My wife completed her PhD study in molecular biology at ETH Zurich. We like dancing tango, cooking and travelling. The picture is taken in September 2023 at Central Park, New York, while Özlem was a visiting PhD student at Princeton University. 

Our Cats Erik and Üzüm

Erik (Plum) and Üzüm (Grape) are brothers. They live with us since 2022. They were the babies of our neighbor’s cat. Now they are playful teenagers. We give lots of love, kisses and hugs to them. 

Tango

My wife and I like dancing tango. I teach tango at the sport center (ASVZ) and student dance association (Tanzquotient) of ETH Zurich. I dance tango since 2010 and teach since 2017. The picture is taken at one of the Tanzquotient courses that I teach with my wife on Friday evenings. 

Nature Protection

I work voluntarily for the nature protection group of Greifensee. Some places around beautiful Greifensee Lake are reserved for birds. Our team (www.asug.ch) enters that region on some Saturday mornings for maintenance and to open new living spaces for the birds. 

Nevader Association

I am a member of the Nevader Association (https://www.nevader.ch/) in Switzerland, where we organize events to present recent scientific developments to the public with simplified scientific language. We collect donations at these events for the education of underprivileged children in Turkiye who lack educational materials and care, and who usually belong to minorities. I took the picture at our seminar about quantum computers in November 2023. 

CHP and SP Member

I am a Turkish-Swiss citizen and a political activist defending freedom of speech and judicial independence in my home country, Türkiye. Furthermore, I defend immigrant rights and nature protection in Switzerland with the SP (Sozialdemokratische Partei). The picture is from one of the demonstrations we organized in Zurich, showing my speech protesting the occupation of the CHP through unfair judicial decisions under pressure from the government.

Friends

In this picture, we celebrate one of our publications with the best burger in Zurich 🙂 I speak Turkish, English, German and a bit French and Japanese, and I like to have friends from various nationalities.
